Frances Yonge Unveils New Album - “Indigo” - A Sweeping Song Cycle on Love, Birth, and Renewal
'Indigo' follows swiftly on the heels of No Longer Lost, released in September 2025 - a collaboration with Natalie Farrell that drew wide acclaim. Indieprint Magazine praised the album as “a lush, multidimensional work…a sonic tapestry that defies easy classification, balancing light and shadow in a way that feels both ancient and futuristic.”Frances’ new album ‘Indigo’, a song cycle, explores themes surrounding birth, love and beauty. Each song runs into the next, like a sonic poem, and the effect is expansive, honest and authentic.
The first song ‘Burgundy’ describes the process of being born… ‘from blood to air, from safe to care, I reach for dawn and open air’ - the tumultuous struggle of birth followed by the first quiet moments between mother and baby. ‘Heart of promises’ tells the story of a failed, exotic romance and ‘Reverberation’ speaks of the frequency and beauty of sound intertwined with vision.
‘Secrets’ describes the mysterious process of songwriting in which the writer is fully herself, and ‘First’ is a song first conceived at the top of a Swiss mountain. The final song, ‘Indigo’, shows the love of a mother in letting her adult children go, letting them ‘write their symphony, in colours bright and bold’.
The album features cello accompaniment from cellist Miriam Cox who creates sonic landscapes and colour to enhance Frances’ piano and vocals. The female collaboration is evident - softness and truth, gentleness and power.
“For me, this album signals a new phase of songwriting, summing up what has been and laying the foundation for a new era of unbound creativity,” says Frances Yonge. “Recording was often challenging, but I kept returning to the original concept that came with such fervour. Allowing ideas to come freely, without questioning or censoring myself, has led to something that feels true to its own sound - a reminder of the importance of being yourself and creating with integrity. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that this album has come to life in my 50th year, when wisdom and intuition feel especially present.”
